Kaw Thoo Lei day , the day for Karen history
To understanding Kaw Thoo Lei day
We’re organizing and celebrating Kawthoolei Day this year, but it’s not something new. Back then in the year of 1949, June 14, our president that we respect and dearly love, President Saw Ba U Gyi, already formed the Kawthoolei government (Kawthoolei Governing Body) and announced Kawthoolei as a free and sovereign country. In the year 1951, the Kawthoolei Governing Body (KGB) congress at that time decided to recognize June 14 as Kawthoolei Day. As a result of their decision, the Kawthoolei Day that we organized and celebrate now is not something new. It is us revitalizing Kawthoolei Day that has existed in order for us to be able to speak of Kawthoolei, Kawthoolei politics, and the current events in Kawthoolei.
There are three main goals of this Kawthoolei Day event which are:
1. To present and spread awareness about Kawthoolei to the World.
2. To speak up for our people in Kawthoolei whom the Burma/Myanmar Military (Tatmadaw) is currently attacking.
3. To prepare a future where our Karen people and people in Kawthoolei would have freedom and be free from all forms of oppression.
“Time to spreading Karen cultures and Karen traditionals”
Kaw Thoo Lei day is the symbol of the unity and the solidarity for them. However, it is the great time for sharing Karen people life to the society which Karen people are living.
