Ta Ka Paux is a traditional Karen food. It is also a dialect word for one Karen group. Karen people are an ethnic group which live in South East Asia, America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. However, they are a small group. Ta Ka Paux is famous food for Karen people. It is similar to rice gruel. Ta Ka Paux is symbol for love, relationships, solutions, and harmony for Karen people.

In the past, there was a myth that Karen ancestors told their descendants. They said, “It talked about the obstacle for Karen people to farm and plant a lot vegetables in their land. The products in their land were not enough to harvest because an animal came to eat their produce and some vegetables died because of disease. Consequently, the Karen lost their food. Therefore, Karen people started to solve the issue, and started to think how to cultivate produce every year, and how to have enough for their families.

When Karen people were done discussing and had a solution, they started to collect all the vegetables and rice in their garden. They collected as much as they could find in their garden. After that, they brought all of it together and started cooking .They put it in the pot till it had boiled. When the cooking was done, the Karen people started sharing with their neighbors; the food which they shared was enough for everyone and they were delighted.

Ta Ka Paux or traditional Karen food is not only food but it‘s a solution Karen people use when they’re lacking food. If they just used this method in the past then it would be a myth. Karen people never thought the simple food will become their traditional food and develop their faith. This tradition implies Karen habits are down to earth and that they are easy-going people. At the present time, Ta Ka Paux is popular food for Karen people. On other hand, it’s food for a visitor and involved in Karen rites also.
